Good Caesar

It’s been very quiet here for the last year, I know:

  • I had my apartment broken into. ‘They’ took my two Rolleiflexes and my Leica M2. Over the years I have shot some of my best work on them. That was pretty traumatic. The Leica was a first edition M2 from 1953. I was it’s third owner. I had it housed in a leather case which used to contain my grand father’s old shaving kit. I remember it was a perfect fit, one M2 and two lenses. It breaks my heart thinking about that. One of the Rolleiflexes was bought in Copenhagen in the summer of ’98 on my way to Atlanta. I remember shooting in the rain during the awesome thunderstorms that summer while staying at a friends place in Little Five Point. The other Rolleiflex I bought for my 30th.
  • The brake-in was followed closely by an emergency appendicitis operation while on holiday in New York. That was very intense. The ambulance drive up through 5th Avenue was quite something. The next 6 six days weren’t.
  • In the mean time my webdesign business has grown. No more me but lots more of us. Welcome Good Caesar. We’ve done some pretty amazing work over the last year and continue our involvement with a rich roster of clients.
  • A book of my work from Japan, ‘Some Nippon Adventure’ has been completed in dummy form. Now it just needs a publisher.
  • In the mean time there is always Twitter.

Thank you.

Some new books

Thought I would share a couple of recent book acquisitions:

Avenue Patrice Lumumba by Guy Tillim

Guy Tillim

Photographs from Congo, Mozambique, Angola and Madagascar.

A Shimmer of Possibility by Paul Graham

Paul Graham

This book is now out in paperback which means that we mere mortals can afford it. The hardcover version was published as 12 individual books, each with a different coloured cover. It works surprisingly well as just one volume.

Novemberrejse by Krass Clement

Krass Clement

The latest book by this busy danish photographer, this time he ventures into the danish countryside.

Westward the course of empire by Mark Ruwedel

Mark Ruwedel

Photographs of abandoned railroads of the American west.

The BLDGblog Book by Geoff Manaugh

Geoff Manaugh

The author of what is probably my favourite website now has a book out.

Quiet please

“Every door is adorned with small speakers that emit white noise into the hallway. The annoying sound prevents passers-by from inadvertently over-hearing classified conversations going on inside.”
